Why is it the good ones like Phil leave us soon? 61 years is not enough of Phil, a man of multiple talents and a man of multiple friends, probably many more than,(given his modesty) he ever realised A genuine mix of wit and warmth, sometimes the cynic, often the jester but always beneath those one liner comments a person who genuinely cared and could see the truth and the truth behind the person That is a rare and all too often overlooked quality, something he possessed and which enriched our lives The last time we met I walked straight past him, he was sitting down, I was rushing for a drink, 'what no time for your old mate?' he cried, Phil mate I'm sorry, I would always have time for you because you always had time for others and I loved your company Its a darn shame we blokes are no good at telling each other that in the living years but rest assured old mate, you were one of the best on this earth and I am sure will be enriching the next one Thanks you for all the care, the humour and for being you Roger (and Jilly) half way round the globe but very close to you and Jane in our hearts
