A Tribute to my amazing Dad Having a Father is a common occurrence…for some a curse for others a blessing….but for me It was a true adventure! …..every adventure needs a hero and mine drove a lorry…a 38 tonne Volvo F7 to be exact and the vehicle in which I first learnt to drive. I think I was around 5 and despite being unable to reach both sides of the wheel Dad would let me steer his rig up the M5 whilst he worked the pedals and read his magazines. Our shared love of all things engined then led us into Dads other childhood passion…. Motocross I received my first bike aged 16 and we raced for 3 years till I’d spent most of his savings and given him more than his fair share of grey hairs More adventures followed involving shotguns, motorbikes, cars and of course that dark art know as golf When Mum and Dad made the decision to move to Spain I will always remember the compassionate and gentle way in which they told me….I think I had gone camping for the weekend and upon my return I found a For Sale sign on the lawn!....Dad always insisted it was the only way they could get me to finally move out…..I mean come on I was only 25 and far too young to go it alone. I didn’t need much convincing that it was the right decision for them as every visit I made they proved they had a better social life than me and were happier and more in love than ever …..and on the subject of love…I recently got engaged and after receiving a copy of my future plans noticed Children were fairly high on my list of duties ….It fills me with sadness that my children will never meet their Grandad and watch as he passed on his blatant disregard for rules and safety. I only hope I can be half the Father, Friend and Mentor that he has been to me
